RICHMOND —
The condition of a pedestrian struck Friday night on Barnes Mill Road by a Kentucky State Police cruiser worsened Saturday evening from serious to critical.
Charles L. Walden, 20, was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center after he was struck around 10 p.m. Friday by the cruiser driven by Senior Trooper Michael P. Luttrell, according to Trooper Paul Blanton, Richmond KSP Post spokesperson.
Luttrell was headed east when his cruiser struck Walden, who was walking along the road. The trooper was responding to a nonemergency call for service, a news release from Blanton stated.
Walden had been listed in serious condition earlier Saturday, according to a medical center spokesperson. At 7:30 p.m., his condition was reported as critical, the worst of the medical community's four-step condition reporting system: good, fair, serious and critical.
The accident is being investigated by the regional KSP Reconstruction Team, according to Blanton's news release. The state police were assisted at the scene by Madison County Fire and Rescue, the Madison County Sheriff's Office and Madison County EMS, which transported Waldon to the Lexington hospital.
