BEREA — A 15-year-old died Sunday after a single-vehicle accident on KY 21 east of Berea, according to a news release from the Madison County Sheriff's Office.
The teen was one of three passengers in a west-bound 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix that ran off the road when the driver apparently lost control shortly before 4:30 p.m. and struck a tree near Indian Fort Theater.
The driver, Kelsey Vickers, 18, of McKee, and three passengers suffered serious injuries, Deputy Willard Reardon said in the release.
A 15-year-old passenger, whose name was withheld pending notification of the family, was pronounced dead at St. Joseph Berea hospital
Vickers was transported to the Berea hospital and later air-lifted to University of Kentucky Medical Center, Reardon said.
The two other passengers, ages 13 and 16, were transported by Madison County EMS to the UK Medical Center. Their names were withheld because they are juveniles, Reardon said.
Wet pavement was likely a factor in the accident, which remains under investigation, Reardon said. The accident reconstruction unit of the Berea Police Department is assisting the sheriff's office in the accident.
