A Berea man is facing misdemeanor alcohol-related charges after a hit-and-run crash in the city Aug. 30.
Jorge Robles, 49, was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs-second offense, a Class B misdemeanor, and leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid, a Class A misdemeanor.
Officers were called to a hit-and-run accident at the intersection of Jefferson Street and North Broadway, early that afternoon, said Capt. Ken Clark, Berea Police spokesperson.
Witnesses at the scene told police that a black pickup truck with severe front-end damage, driven by a man who appeared to be Hispanic, had rear-ended another vehicle. The crash resulted in no injuries, Clark said.
The pickup allegedly left the scene at a high rate of speed. A license plate number was obtained by officers, and at about 4:43 p.m. were able to locate the vehicle and make contact with Robles, Clark said.
Robles allegedly told police he had been driving the pickup, and that he left the scene because he was intoxicated and scared, Clark said.
Officers took Robles to the Berea Police Department, where an alcohol breath test was administered. He was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center and was released Aug. 31 on a $2,500 cash bond.
If convicted he faces up to 12 months in prison.
DUI arrest
Acting on a complaint Sunday, Berea Police arrested Jerry M. Click, 33, of McKee, for allegedly driving recklessly and under the influence of alcohol or drugs, Clark said.
According to a police report, officers saw Click’s vehicle turn left off Glades Road onto Richmond Road from the through lane, rather than the left-turn lane.
Police who stopped the vehicle allegedly noticed an odor of alcoholic beverages about Click’s person. He also allegedly had slow, slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet.
He was arrested and taken to the police department, where a alcohol breath test was administered. He then was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center and released the same day on a $750 unsecured bond.
Click was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs-first offense, a Class B misdemeanor, and improper turning, a traffic violation.
If convicted he faces up to 90 days in jail.
Other crimes
• On Sept. 1, someone broke into an apartment in the 100 block of Silver Creek Drive, but nothing was reported stolen.
• Power hand tools, valued at $1,700 were reported stolen from a residence in the 200 block of Elkin Street at about noon Sept. 2.
• A 46-inch TV, a 22-inch flat screen TV, and jewelry were taken from an apartment in the 1000 block of Brooklyn Boulevard on Sept. 2. The items are valued at a total of $1,700.
• Several cartons of cigarettes, valued at more than $190, were taken from a gas station in the 1000 block of Paint Lick Road at about 11:47 a.m. Friday.
• A PlayStation, a global positioning unit, jewelry and exercise equipment was taken from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 900 block of Weeping Willow Drive. The items are valued at a total of $3,615.
• From Aug. 30 through Sept. 5, Berea Police charged three people with alcohol intoxication.
