RICHMOND —
A Richmond woman accused of altering personal checks in an attempt to get more cash was arrested and charged Tuesday with three counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.
On Oct. 27, a complainant told the Richmond police that Susan M. Roberts, 53, of Indigo Drive, had changed the amounts on three checks he had written to her, according to Richmond Police Chief Larry Brock. Two checks were for $50, and they had been changed to $350 and cashed, Brock said in a news release. Another check was for $35, and it allegedly was altered to $235 and cashed.
A warrant was issued Nov. 2 for Roberts’ arrest. She turned herself in Tuesday at the Richmond police station and was released on a $2,500 bond on the same day.
Thefts reported
A Walmart customer told police that her wallet containing personal identification documents, credit and debit cards, and gift cards was stolen during the mid-afternoon hours Tuesday. A white female in her early 20s, about 5 feet, 6 inches tall with brown hair and a nose ring was identified as a suspect. She was accompanied by another white female in her late 30s to early 40s with brown hair. The estimated loss is $38.
A customer at the Blue Moon bar told police Tuesday that her Canon Powershot digital camera had been stolen from the bar shortly before midnight on New Year’s Eve. Estimated loss is $368.
Theft from business
A representative of the Richmond Pain Management Center, Ival James Boulevard, reported Tuesday that a Hewlett Packard Touch-Smart laptop had been stolen from the business sometime during December. The estimated loss is $1,600.
Burglaries
A caretaker of property in the 600 block of Cottonwood Drive told police Monday that the home had been broken into sometime during the past two months, and several pieces of copper piping had been stolen. Entry was gained by forcing open a rear door, Brock said. An external air conditioning unit also had been stolen. The loss is estimated to be $5,600.
A resident of an apartment in the 100 block of Meadowlark Drive reported Monday that her home had been broken into sometime between Dec. 27 and 31. An unlocked front window was the point of entry, according to Brock. Several items were reported missing, including a Panasonic 50-inch plasma TV, an Emerson 32-inch LCD television, a black XBox 360 system, an iPad and a lanyard with assorted keys. Estimated loss is $1,894.
Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to call the Richmond Police Department at 623-1162.
