Richmond’s Irvinton Estate in Richmond’s Irvine-McDowell Park, 345 Lancaster Ave., is hosting “A Journey to Christmas Past” Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.
Visitors will be transported back in time to experience the traditions of Christmas in Madison County during the 1860s. Among the vignettes portrayed will be children making period Christmas decorations, Victorian carolers, a Confederate officer writing home and the ever-popular “Grandma and Grandpa” talking about the Christmas celebrations of their childhoods.
Group tours will be every 20 to 30 minutes. Saturday’s program will begin at 6 p.m. with the last tour starting around 7:45. The program will start Sunday at 1 with the last tour beginning around 3:45.
Refreshments will be available. A nominal entrance charge will be required.
The event is co-sponsored by Richmond Tourism and the Battle of Richmond Association.
