Library starting photo club

RICHMOND — Shooting and processing photographs has become much easier in this technological age, to the point that anyone with a digital camera and access to a computer can take and download pictures.

Most printers have the ability to print photos, or are equipped to print photo quality paper, and it is just as easy to copy the images to a disk and have them printed within minutes at one of several stores around the county.

If you want to save the time and money of printing photos, simply get on the Internet and instantly make your photographs available to friends, family or the entire world, if you choose.

For those interested in sharing their love of photography with others, the Madison County Public Library has created a photography club

The group, which will be meet monthly at alternating branches, has scheduled its first meeting for 5 p.m. on Friday at the Berea branch.

“In the last several years, social networking sites and the availability of better and less expensive digital cameras has created a surge of interest in photography,” said John Payne, network administrator for the Madison County Public Library. “It is our hope to use the club to bring these individuals together.”

The discussions made at the first meeting will help steer the course of the meetings to follow, said Payne, who added that future meetings may include topics such as composition, aperture, photo editing and posting photos online.

Participants are encouraged to bring their cameras and share photographs.

At the conclusion of each meeting, Payne said he will challenge those attending to electronically submit a photo for the next meeting.

Payne also will share information about library resources as well as available free software and services that can make photography even more rewarding.

All interested persons are invited, whether they are a casual point-and-shooterinterested in creating better photographs or a seasoned veteran hoping to network or share their experience.

In later sessions, Payne said he plans to invite local professional photographers as guests to the meetings to pass their knowledge on to the group.
