A new salon in Berea is sponsoring a weeklong fundraiser to raise money in memory of a Madison County resident who suffered from cystic fibrosis.
Cloud 9 Hair Design, 216 Mount Vernon Road, will donate all money received for waxing services this week to Bobbie’s Believers, a local group dedicated to raising money for cystic fibrosis awareness.
The organization was created in honor of Bobbie Jones, a Madison Southern student who suffered from cystic fibrosis. She died in an auto accident, according to salon co-owner Lisa Harrison.
Bobbie’s mother, Trish, created Bobbie’s Believers to raise money and help find a cure for cystic fibrosis, Harrison said. Trish also was salon co-owner Candace Himes’ instructor in beauty school.
Cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening inherited illness that causes thick, sticky mucus to build up in the digestive tract, lungs and other parts of the body.
The salon’s fundraiser runs through Saturday. Harrison said Cloud 9 specializes in hair cuts and coloring as well as waxing services. No appointment is necessary
Cloud 9 Hair Design is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday. No appointment is necessary, but the salon can be reached at 985-5066.

Exit 95 rebuild delayed until 2017
Originally scheduled for 2014, the reconstruction of Exit 95 on Interstate 75 won’t take place until 2017, Madison Judge/Executive Kent Clark told a joint meeting of the Richmond and Berea chambers of commerce Friday.
The state Transportation Cabinet is delaying the project, Clark said, until a decision is made on the proposed highway that would run from Exit 95 to Nicholasville. -

Man arrested Friday after early morning break-in
Richmond police made an arrest Friday in connection with an early morning break-in at Jack’s Cleaners on West Water Street.
Scott Hobbs, 42, of McKee, was charged with first-degree burglary, according to Richmond Police Chief Larry Brock
At 3:25 a.m., a witness reported seeing a man enter and exit the cleaners through a broken window and drive away, Brock stated in a news release. -
Grand jury indicts inmates in jail assault
Two inmates at the Madison County Detention Center were indicted Wednesday on charges related to the beating of another prisoner.
