New location for annual Paint Lick VillageFest

On Saturday, the village of Paint Lick will host its annual celebration of the fall season at a new site — on the grounds and in the clubhouse of the Paint Lick Sportsmen’s Club, on the Old Railroad Grade Road (behind Rick’s Diner, formerly Sweetpea’s).

The Friends of Paint Lick will be hosting a soup-bean and cornbread lunch inside the clubhouse. A $5 lunch includes homemade soup beans, cornbread, dessert, and a drink. All proceeds go to funding Friends’ programs throughout the coming year.

Also inside the clubhouse, the Friends volunteers will be selling raffle tickets on some high-quality prizes, some of which will be drawn for at about 3 p.m. that day and the rest of which will be held over for drawings at the Friends’ Christmas in the Village in December. Tickets for the items being raffled off Saturday are $1 each and 6 for $5. Tickets for Christmas in the Village raffle items will be $2 each and 3 for $5.

The Sportsman’s Club members will be setting up another food station at the shelter on the grounds where they’ll be selling sloppy joes, chips and cookies. Proceeds from sales will fund programming for the Sportsman’s Club.

Ramey Taylor and his family and others will be there to provide musical entertainment. You never know who might take to the microphone as the day goes on, so bring a chair and plan to sit a spell and enjoy the day!

Kids will have their own activity area where they can play for hours, far from the traffic on main street.

“This is one of the reasons we chose to move the festival to the Sportsman’s Club,” said Kristen Mason Stratton, president of the Friends of Paint Lick Inc. “We were always concerned about children running back and forth across the street when we held the festival there.”

There also will be a collection box set up for items to be sent to soldiers overseas by the Military Family Focus of Garrard County group. Items needs most are new twin blankets and sheets, AA and AAA alkaline batteries, new or gently used DVD movies and shows and whatever else you think the men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan might like to receive. Donations to help with postage are welcome.

On the clubhouse grounds, there will be a variety of vendor booths set up selling craft items, yard sale items and baked goods, among other items. There also will be free blood-pressure checks and health information provided by Care Tenders, of Danville, and a variety of information booths.
