Motel robbed at gunpoint Friday

Brian Smith

A Richmond motel was robbed at gunpoint Friday night, police said, but no one was injured.

The desk clerk at the Best Western motel on the Eastern Bypass called police around 11:15 p.m. Friday to report the robbery, according to Richmond Police Department Chief Larry Brock.

The clerk told police a white male, approximately 5 feet, 11 inches tall and of thin build, entered the motel, brandished a handgun and demanded money.

The robber then jumped over the desk and pointed the gun at the clerk, who gave the man an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect fled on foot, Brock said. He was described as wearing blue jeans, a navy blue hooded sweatshirt, black athletic shoes, a black ski mask and gloves.

A police dog was brought to the scene in an attempt to track the suspect, but the search was unsuccessful, Brock said.
