RICHMOND —
Two Richmond men were arrested Sunday in connection with a burglary and robbery that occurred on separate occasions in March.
Daniel Martinez, 27, Geri Lane, and Christopher Reynolds, 27, Spurlin Mobile Home Park, were charged with third-degree burglary and first-degree robbery.
On March 20, at approximately 1:33 a.m., officers were dispatched to Redi Mart, 430 N. Second St., to investigate a report of a possible robbery in progress, according to Richmond Police Chief Larry Brock.
No intruders were found inside the building.
Upon checking the premises, a manager determined that $50 in cash and three cartons of cigarettes had been stolen.
Estimated total loss is $200.
At approximately 11:30 p.m. on March 26, a man said he was walking on Wayne Drive near the Building-A of the Ashley Woods Apartment complex when he was robbed at gunpoint.
The victim stated that a dark-skinned male wearing a face mask pointed a gun at him and took his cellular phone and $700 in cash, then fled on foot.
An on-duty officer received a tip that the men involved in the robbery also were involved in the burglary at Redi Mart, the police chief said.
Following an investigation, Martinez and Reynolds were charged with the crimes.
Martinez is being held in the Madison County Detention Center on a bond on $15,500.
He also is being held on unrelated charges of non-payment of fines, contempt of court, libel/slander, theft by unlawful taking-shoplifting and must serve 30 days on a third-degree criminal mischief charge.
Reynolds is being held in the Madison County Detention Center on a $10,000 cash bond.
Shoplifting charge turns to drug arrest.
Angela M. Shepherd, 34, Brookstown Road, was arrested on two charges of possession of a controlled substance stemming from a shoplifting incident at Richmond Centre.
At approximately 5:25 p.m. on Wednesday, officers were dispatched to Rue 21 to investigate a shoplifting report. At the store, officers observed Shepherd attempting to remove a theft detection sensor from a pair of shoes, Brock said.
A search of Shepherd’s purse revealed items belonging to the store, along with two phentermine pills and an oxycodone pill, the chief said.
The stolen items were returned to the store and Shepherd was charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance, third-degree possession of a controlled substance and public intoxication.
She is being held in the detention center on a $2,500 cash bond.
