Police: Richmond man confesses to killing missing couple

RICHMOND —

A 26-year-old man has confessed to kidnapping and killing a Richmond couple who have been missing since June 2010, according to an arrest report obtained from Madison District Court.
Shortly after the alleged confession, law enforcement officers discovered two bodies in Madison County, according to Maj. Bob Mott of the Richmond Police Department. Police would not confirm Tuesday the bodies were those of Charles “Chew” Walker and Sonsaray “Sonsi” Warford.
Daniel Keene, 26, of 466 Garden City Drive, was arrested Monday night at the Richmond Police Department, according to the report.  Keene was booked shortly before midnight into the Madison County Detention Center. He is being held on a $2 million bond, according to the jail’s website.
Keene reportedly confessed to kidnapping Walker and Warford on June 28, 2010, from their apartment at 228 Keystone Drive. He and another person, who was not named in the report, murdered the couple within Madison County, the report said. 
“.. Keene stated the items used in the commission of the kidnapping and murders were disposed of in Madison County,” states the report.
Mott said multiple searches were conducted in Madison and other counties before the bodies were found. They were there for “quite some time,” Mott said.
Mott did not give any further information about the bodies, including identity or sex, stating the department was waiting on autopsy results before releasing that information. The bodies were sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort, and Mott did not know when the autopsies would be complete.
Mott said numerous agencies were involved with the investigation over “many, many months,” including the Kentucky State Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Cadaver-detecting dogs also were used, Mott said.
The case is a “giant puzzle,” and the investigation continues, according to Mott. More arrests are expected, he added.
Walker and Warford were both 30 years old at the time of their disappearance. They lived together in the Keystone Drive apartment and were reported missing June 29 by family members. 
Warford had two children who were 10 and 8 at the time of her disappearance.

    The first will take place at the Richmond Cemetery near the flagpole at 10 a.m., and the second will follow at noon in Madison County Memorial Gardens on Berea Road.
    Everett King of the American Legion, which is coordinating this year’s events, said U.S. Rep. Andy Barr, R-Sixth District, will be present at the morning ceremony.
    Every year the Memorial Day event has a theme. Last year’s theme was honoring Vietnam veterans, King said, while this year’s theme is honoring all American soldiers.
