RICHMOND —
Madison County has plans to light up the sky this Fourth of July despite extremely dry weather.
Daniel Boone National Forest management officials issued emergency orders this week concerning visitors’ use of fire and fireworks in the Daniel Boone National Forest.
As of June 27, campfires, charcoal grills, candles, open-flame torches and all fireworks can’t be used on forest grounds.
Christian County, Houstonville, Junction City, Clark County, Corbin, Liberty and Stanford also have implemented firework bans.
Celebrations in Madison County will begin Tuesday on Independence Day eve with a free concert of patriotic music by the Madison Singers of the Richmond Area Arts Council and the Madison Community Band. The music will start at 7 p.m. in the Ravine amphitheater at Eastern Kentucky University.
Richmond’s Firework Extravaganza is scheduled for July 4 from 2-10 p.m. at Lake Reba Recreational Complex. Parking will be $5 per vehicle. The Battle of the Bands winner will be playing at 4:30 p.m. and other music will be provided by Mike and Shawn, 5 p.m.; The Westbrook Trio, 6 p.m.; Boogie G & The Titanics, 7 p.m.; Faded Blue, 8:30; and the fireworks will begin at 10 p.m. Chick-fil-A’s Kid Zone and food vendors will open at 4 p.m.
Berea’s Fourth of July Spectacular will begin at 5 p.m. in City Park and will feature a variety of entertainment.
The Freedom Riders band will kick things off beginning at 5 p.m., followed by a Danish gymnastics exhibition at 7 p.m. A veterans’ recognition ceremony will be at 7:30 p.m. and the Prefab Rehab band will play from 8 until 10 p.m., which is when the fireworks display will begin.
Entertainment for children and guests will include face painting, inflatables, a fire truck, a mechanical bull, henna tattoos, a climbing wall and concessions.

Splashing around in Paradise
Wet and relatively cool weather has hurt attendance at Richmond’s Paradise Cove Family Aquatic Center since in opened for the season May 25, according to city officials. However, sunshine and a high of nearly 85 degrees Wednesday drew a large midweek crowd to the pool in Lake Reba Park.
A high of 86 was predicted for today by AccuWeather.com with 89 forecast for Friday and Sunday and 91 on Saturday. -

‘Puppet Frenzy’
Students age 6 to 13 in the Richmond Area Arts Council’s “Puppet Frenzy” summer arts camp this week are designing and making their own puppets under the direction of Richard and Mary Brown. They will put on a puppet show for family and friends on Friday.
