RICHMOND —
A 21-year-old woman was arrested and charged with multiple misdemeanors after she allegedly ran a red light at the intersection of East Main Street and Estill Avenue.
Erin M. Jackson was driving a blue Ford Focus with Ohio plates, allegedly ran the red light at about 2:13 a.m. Sunday, and was then followed for a short distance by Richmond Police, according to a police report.
The woman turned onto Lancaster Avenue and crossed the centerline three times before reaching Park Drive, the report said. Officers stopped the vehicle she was driving at the intersection of Lancaster Avenue and Cardinal Drive. Upon approaching the vehicle, the report said the officer detected a slight odor of alcohol about the woman and that she was nervous and “fumbling” with her insurance paperwork. Jackson allegedly failed field sobriety tests and was arrested and taken to the Madison County Detention Center.
During the booking process, officers allegedly discovered a small amount of marijuana in a glass pipe inside her purse.
Jackson was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, a Class B misdemeanor punishable by up to 90 days in prison. As well as, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia, both Class A misdemeanors. If convicted, she could face up to 2 years in prison on each of these charges.
Christopher A. Lusk, 21, of Richmond, also was arrested after he allegedly crashed his car into a fence in the 1000 block of Center Drive at about 9:59 p.m. Sunday, according to a Richmond Police Department report.
Lusk told officers he was in control of the vehicle during the collision and that he had a suspended license because of a previous DUI conviction, the report said. He was unable to provide proof of registration or insurance, according to the report. He allegedly “exhibited” signs of alcohol intoxication during field sobriety tests, and a breath test allegedly indicated the presence of an “interferent,” the report said. Lusk was taken to Pattie A. Clay where a blood test was performed. The man told police he had inhaled a can of compressed air and drank about three beers before driving, the report said.
Lusk was arrested and charged with failure to produce an insurance card, no registration receipt, both violations, driving on a DUI suspended license, first offense, a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to 12 months in prison. He also was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, second offense, a Class B misdemeanor, punishable by up to 90 days in jail.
Lusk was not injured in the crash. The results of the blood test were unavailable.
Other crimes:
• A resident of an apartment in the 100 block of Alycia Drive, told police that overnight Friday, someone had ransacked the middle console and glove box of their silver 2005 Dodge Stratus and stolen a JVC stereo faceplate, and an unknown brand digital compass, both valued at $170.
A resident of a separate apartment in the 100 block of Alycia Drive told police that overnight Sunday, someone broke into his 2005 Dodge Ram and stole a checkbook for an inactive account.
• On Saturday, a man told police that at about 7:30 p.m. someone stole a 8GB 4G iPhone, and a case from his silver 2010 GMC Sierra, while it was parked at the rear of Hooter’s, 241 Eastern Bypass. The man told police he had left his driver’s-side window rolled down while he was inside the restaurant.
• A white Cadillac CTS was egged overnight Saturday while the car was parked the 1400 block of Arlington Drive. The stolen items are valued at $399.
• An MP3 player in a blue case and a silver Canon digital camera were stolen from a 2001 Dodge Durango at about 1:54 p.m. Sunday while the car was parked in the 100 block of O’Roarke Avenue. The stolen items are valued at $260.
• A man described as a white male with a beard, allegedly walked out of Dunham’s, 833 Eastern Bypass, while wearing a pair of size 10, men’s Nike Free 5.OVF shoes without paying for them, at about 5:25 p.m. Sunday.
