RICHMOND —
A Valley Street woman was arrested on a theft charge after she attempted to leave Walmart with $900 in merchandise, according to a Richmond police news release.
Michelle L. Gooch, 37, was charged Wednesday with theft by unlawful taking (over $500).
Walmart employees reported that Gooch tried to leave the store without paying for merchandise totaling $900.91, the release stated.
She was stopped by Walmart employees, and the stolen items were recovered, according to the RPD.
Other crime:
• A complainant told police Wednesday that a makeup bag was stolen from her vehicle while she was inside the Merrick Shell store on New Year’s Day. She did not realize the bag was stolen until the next day, and when she returned to the store, she learned her bag had been found in a men’s restroom trash can.
Items stolen from the bag included: a red quilt Vera Bradley bag, an S. Kirk and Soon silver spoon ring with flowers, six pairs of silver hoop earrings, a silver dime ring, a silver band ring, a yellow gold chain, a silver chain with six silver charms and one 24k gold heart Daughter charm, a 24K gold thumb ring, a pair of stud earrings, a $50 Logan’s gift card and a $200 Walmart gift card.
Estimated loss is $5,000.
• A complainant reported Wednesday that his iPhone 4S, 32 GB, cell phone had been lost or stolen while he was at Jimmy John’s restaurant the previous evening. The phone is worth $499.
• A complainant reported Tuesday that a yellow-and-green John Deere forklift, 11-foot mast with a 32-foot lift arm, had been stolen from a construction site at Atwood and Ryan drives. The forklift is worth $5,000.
• A resident in the 300 block of McDougal Avenue reported Tuesday that his apartment had been burglarized during the previous day and an LG 42-inch plasma television, worth $1,191.66, was stolen. There were no signs of forced entry, according to the RPD.
