RICHMOND —
Around noon Friday, she heard the crash before she saw it, said Mysterie Brown Conner, marketing director at Madison Bank on Gibson Bay Drive.
Conner and a co-worker looked out of their office window and saw a wrecked car on the Robert R. Martin Bypass but didn’t see the SUV that was in a ditch on the side of the road.
They left the bank and walked down to the scene where an elderly woman was trapped inside the SUV, she said.
Traffic backed up on Gibson Bay Drive where “people were jumping out of their cars right and left to help,” Conner said.
The driver’s vehicle was sitting on two wheels while the passenger side of the car was off the ground.
Not knowing the condition of the driver, first responders wanted to gain access to her from the driver’s side but could not level the vehicle on their own, she said.
“I’m not sure whose idea it was,” Conner said, but four bystanders used their body weight to position the SUV parallel to the ground while police officers and paramedics pushed the vehicle from the other side.
The driver was able to walk away from the accident, but she was visibly shaken, Conner said. “I was really impressed how so many rushed to help, and that’s why I took this photo.”

Madison County veterans to host Memorial Day ceremonies
The Madison County Veterans Association, which includes a number of local veterans’ organizations, will be hosting two Memorial Day ceremonies Monday.
The first will take place at the Richmond Cemetery near the flagpole at 10 a.m., and the second will follow at noon in Madison County Memorial Gardens on Berea Road.
Everett King of the American Legion, which is coordinating this year’s events, said U.S. Rep. Andy Barr, R-Sixth District, will be present at the morning ceremony.
Every year the Memorial Day event has a theme. Last year’s theme was honoring Vietnam veterans, King said, while this year’s theme is honoring all American soldiers. -

Court hearing reveals errors in trafficking case’s investigative file
A discrepancy in police records led to an unusual hearing in a drug trafficking case Thursday in Madison Circuit Court.
The attorney for 49-year-old Carla Rae Clontz made a motion earlier this month for a bill of particulars hearing.
