RICHMOND —
A Richmond man is in stable condition after being stabbed early Monday morning.
Robert W. Short, 22, is in stable condition at the University of Kentucky Medical Center after he was stabbed by another Berea resident at about 2:30 a.m.
Short and Jordan Palmer, also 22, were smoking marijuana in a stand of woods off Old Wallacetown Road in Berea, when the two began fighting, according to a Kentucky State Police press release. Palmer told KSP troopers that Short began assaulting him and he stabbed Short in self-defense, said KSP Trooper Chris Lanham.
Short suffered multiple stab wounds to the stomach and back, and was taken first to St. Joseph-Berea, but was transferred to UK, the release said.
Palmer allegedly used a pocket knife to stab Short. He was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, a Class C felony.
Palmer is being held in the Madison County Detention Center on a 10 percent, $5,000 cash bond.
If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison.
KSP Trooper Toby Coyle is investigating the case.
