RICHMOND —
An elderly Richmond woman died after a car crash Saturday morning in Richmond.
Nettie B. Casey, 83, of Moberly Avenue was driving a 1989 Oldsmobile, at about 8:34 a.m. when she attempted to make a right-hand turn from Boggs Lane into the eastbound lanes of Eastern Bypass, said Larry Brock, Richmond Police chief.
Casey’s vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by a 2004 Dodge pickup, also headed eastbound, driven by John C. Moore, 75, of Lancaster.
“The force of the impact shoved Casey’s car off the roadway and into a drainage ditch on the eastbound shoulder of the roadway,” the chief said. “Witnesses at the scene indicated that the vehicle being operated by Moore disregarded a red light at the intersection.”
Casey was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by the Richmond Fire Department, he said. She was taken to Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center, and transferred to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center, where she later died. She was pronounced dead by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.
Moore declined medical treatment at the scene, Brock said.
Moore’s car sustained moderate front end damage, while Casey’s car was severely damaged, he said.
As of 6 p.m. Tuesday, it was unknown whether Moore would face any charges in connection with the crash.
Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to have played a factor in the crash, Brock said.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
