1 killed, 3 injured in traffic collision near Berea

RICHMOND —

A Brodhead woman died this afternoon after the vehicle she was riding in collided with a pickup truck north of Berea.

Anna Rodriguez, 55, was pronounced dead at 5:46 p.m. at the scene of the accident by Madison County Coroner Jimmy Cornelison, according to a news release from the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.

A Dodge Nitro SUV driven by Angela N. Foster, 23, of Brodhead was traveling north at 5:05 p.m. on KY 1016 when she ran through a stop sign at Battlefield Memorial Highway, according to the news release. The SUV struck a Dodge Ram pickup head-on.

Rodriguez had been a passenger in the SUV. Foster and another passenger, a 2-year-old girl, were taken by ambulance to St. Joseph Berea for treatment, the sheriff’s department reported.

The driver of the pickup, Richard D. Wilburn, 36, of Berea, had his minor injuries treated at the scene, and he was not transported to the hospital, according to the release. He was wearing a seat belt when the collision occurred.

Rodriguez was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, but the 2-year-old child was restrained in a car seat, the release said. No information was given on whether Foster was wearing a seat belt.

The accident is still under investigation by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.
