Man indicted twice by Madison grand jury

Has history of leaving scenes of accidents

RICHMOND — A Richmond man with a history of leaving the scene of an accident has offended twice more according to indictments handed down Wednesday by a Madison grand jury.

Johnny Lee Dargavell, 43, of Moran Mill Road, received two separate indictments against him this week, both based on incidents in which he reportedly left the scene of an accident.

The first indictment included seven charges stemming from a June 30 accident where Dargavell “wantonly caused serious physical injury to Brandy Artley while operating a motor vehicle,” according to the indictment. This incident resulted in him being indicted on charges of second-degree assault, first-degree criminal mischief, leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid or assistance with death or serious physical injury, fourth-degree assault, failure of owner to maintain required insurance (first offense), aggravated operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol (first offense) and second-degree persistent felony offender.

The second indictment for Dargavell stems from an incident which reportedly happened June 17 where he “struck an all-terrain vehicle occupied by Paul Linderman” and “failed to stop and render assistance to Mr. Linderman.”

In the second indictment, Dargavell was indicted on charges of first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree criminal mischief, leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid or assistance, failure of owner to maintain required insurance/security first offense and second-degree persistent felony offender.

Dargavell has been incarcerated nine times since 2008 when he was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and driving under the influence, according to records on the Madison County Detention Center’s website.

He remains in the Madison County Detention Center on a $10,000 cash bond.
