CARTERSVILLE — A Paint Lick man was shot to death early Tuesday morning in Cartersville after he allegedly forced his way into a home, according to a Kentucky State Police report.
Dallas Helton, 40, of Paint Lick, was dead at the scene when investigators arrived at the rural community 3.5 miles west of Berea in Garrard County, the report stated.
Helton suffered from a single gunshot wound to the chest, according to the report.
“The shooting victim was wearing gloves, a ski mask, and was in possession of a crow bar at the time he entered the residence,” it stated.
“At 12:46, the Bluegrass 911 Center received a call from a homeowner who reported that a male subject had forcibly entered his residence and that he had shot him,” said Trooper Chris Lanham, spokesperson for KSP Post 7 in Richmond.
The responding troopers said they found two people waiting outside the residence in a vehicle.
One was identified as Tanya A. Fowler, 35, of Berea. The other was the Helton’s juvenile son, the report stated.
Fowler was charged with one count of complicity to commit burglary, second degree, and was lodged in the Lincoln County Regional Jail.
A bond hearing for Fowler was scheduled for 10 p.m. Tuesday, according to a jail spokesperson.
The juvenile, who was not charged, was placed in the custody of relatives, Lanham said.
The homeowner also has not been charged.
Helton’s body was taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort where it was to undergo an autopsy.
Evidence from the case will be presented to a Garrard County grand jury, Lanham said.
