RICHMOND —
A 19-year-old man was charged with third-degree burglary after police say a tenant in a South Porter Drive apartment building asked him to steal appliances from a vacant apartment.
Allen Murphy, 19, Boggs Lane, was arrested Wednesday following an investigation by the Richmond police.
A maintenance worker for an apartment building in the 200 block of South Porter Avenue reported Sunday that a white washer and dryer had been taken Friday from a vacant apartment, according to an RPD news release.
“It was further determined that a Frigidaire refrigerator had been taken from the apartment and replaced with another refrigerator,” the release stated.
A follow-up investigation found that a building tenant had “solicited the assistance” of a third party to remove the refrigerator from the vacant apartment to her apartment and replace it with her refrigerator, according to the RPD.
Murphy was identified as the third-party, the release states. The theft of the washer and dryer are still under investigation.
Also on Sunday, police received another burglary reported from an apartment in the same block of South Porter Drive. Entry was gained through an unlocked rear window, according to the RPD.
Residents told police their home had been unlawfully entered during the past day and several items were stolen, including three Xbox 360 games, a ladies’ 14k yellow gold necklace with a “Mom” pendant with clear stones and a yellow-gold 14k engagement ring with a princess-cut diamond.
The items are worth $1,180.
Anyone with information about these cases is asked to call the Richmond Police Department at 623-1162.
