BEREA —
A celebration was conducted Thursday in Berea for the new St. Joseph Heart Institute.
It is located in the Alfred M. Wood Building that formerly housed the University of Kentucky Cancer Center next to St. Joseph Berea main building.
The renamed and upgraded facility will house the offices of Dr. David O’Reilly and Dr. Asad Jadoon and offer more convenient, state-of-the-art cardiology services, hospital officials said.
The project cost about $1 million, according to Chris Schill, director of the St. Joseph Berea Foundation. The main financial contributor was the late Alfred M. Wood, a Berea native .
The facility will bring technologically-advanced services to patients, including compact cardiac imaging, pharmacological and exercise nuclear stress testing with diagnostic images, echocardiography abilities, EKG testing, anti-coagulation therapy testing, event recording and holter monitoring, said Katie Heckman, spokesperson for St. Joseph Berea.
“The thing that’s nice is that it’s all in one area,” Heckman said. “It’s very convenient for our patients. We have this wonderful, new cardiac camera that the patient can sit in comfortably and the camera goes around them
The process of renovating the building began in late 2010, Schill said.
“It’s something that was certainly needed,” he said. “We just saw a significant increase in the number of patients for all different kinds of heart issues. We can make a real impact to help people and hopefully catch problems early.”
