RICHMOND —
Not even cold raindrops falling outside could daunt my feelings of love and adoration for so many people this morning. I know many of you experience the same sensation toward countless friends and family members.
God is so wonderful to have created the conception of a particular sensation called love, then allow mankind the ability to comprehend this sentiment.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psalms 139:23-24)
Commentators say the 139 Psalm is a song of thanksgivings and is one of the most needed prayers in the whole Bible. This particular Psalm was sung at the opening of the Passover and was also a favorite temple song.
Certainly, God and David shared a deep love, which resulted in David’s penning in this beautiful, prayerful song.
No! The weather hasn’t intimidated the love in my heart this Valentine’s Day and I certainly hope it hasn’t affected your show of affection toward those you love.
There were many successful valentine’s parties at various churches in our area this past weekend. I do hope everyone enjoyed themselves and appreciated their partners and the romantic ambiance of the evening.
Roberta Adkins reported Tates Creek Baptist Church will be remembering “The National Children’s Ministry Day” this Saturday, Feb. 18, from 9 a.m. to noon. The church will be having a pancake breakfast with the children working on a community project for theatre. This program is for children in the fifth grade and under.
Roberta also reports the Ladies Book Club continues to meet at the church each Tuesday at 11 a.m.
Please forgive me for making the same mistake twice. However, I will not allow my own blunder to misrepresent this wonder couple. I would like to wish Darell and Wanda Wells, from Tates Creek Baptist Church, a wonderful, belated wedding anniversary, which actually occurred Jan. 29. Please accept my apology and may God bless both of you with many more happy years together.
I appreciate many of you contacting me as to the cancellation of the indoor yard and bake sale and slightly-used purse boutique, slated for last Saturday, being cancelled for Madison Central school. Amy Palmer, organizer of Project Graduation, will be sure to let me know of the new date and I will pass it along in my column.
The old adage for the week is appropriately: “Remember, you’re marrying the woman and her family.”

Looking at various things
During my eight years away from home (Richmond and Madison County) the post office tower was a beacon welcoming me home.
Today, the the stone edifice completed in the 1892 as a post office and federal courthouse is the Madison Hall of Justice. -
Things are different than when we were young
I was just thinking the other day about how confused we seniors are most of the time. Things are so different than when we were young. We find it hard to understand much of what we are confronted with.
Some things like this happen to us frequently. We begin a conversation with, “In my day.” We look so old we are followed around by archeologists. We tell our kids that old age causes us to become wiser and they tell us, “Then you must be a genius.” We no longer look forward to a wild evening out, but look forward to a dull evening in. -
We are heirs and joint-heirs to His kingdom
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

That question was the subject of a recent investigation by a team of exercise scientists at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, and the answer seems to be a lot less than we might think, as long as we’re willing to put in the effort. -
A mother’s love never stops
A mothers love will always be there. Even when everyone else stops to rest, her love for her family continues. She is always working, carring and sharing what she has with her children, even if she has to do without for herself.

Rethinking the benefits of crunches
I’ve been doing crunches all my adult life and it may be one of the reasons I have back problems. Research from the University of Waterloo in Ontario has found that repeated bending of the spine, such as occurs when doing crunches, can contribute over time to damage of spinal discs. The results are presented — along with a lot of other useful information — in the book, “Ultimate Back Fitness and Performance” by Stuart McGill.

It’s tough to be old
I was just thinking the other day about how tough it is to be old. We seniors have so many things to contend with. One of the first things is our memory, or perhaps I should say our lack of memory. I’ve often thought it is easier for us to remember things that happened to us when we were kids than to remember what we had for lunch yesterday. Names are hard to recall. It is embarrassing to meet someone who is familiar and we are certain we should know them, but simply cannot remember their name. In a conversation with a friend, to talk about a former friend but neither of you are able to recall their name.
