Hello readers, our weather has been absolutely beautiful and the true autumn colors are everywhere.
I have been traveling some in the early mornings along White Lick Road and down around Frog Branch Road. It is amazing what you can spot when you don’t have any idea where you’re going, as I have this past week. My travels have not been that extensive, but in trying to find someone, I usually end up going all over before I get to the correct spot.
Anyway folks, Monday morning, a heavy fog covered the roads and it was really hard to see the road at only 10 feet away. My heart nearly stopped when I came up very close to a flock of wild turkeys. They were everywhere! And to say they were magnificent birds is putting it lightly.
After I calmed myself, I truly felt I was going to enjoy the ride from now on and would take all the chances I could just to travel that area and maybe in time, I could learn where I was going without getting lost. Paint Lick has some wonderfully picturesque views and with those fall colors in the early morning. It was incredible.
I have a plea for my readers. Sheila is a 7-year-old blonde and some black Pomeranian pup, and she has been missing for more than a week from her home on Gillespie Pike. Sheila’s owners are Dean and Janet Perry and they are praying for Sheila’s return to the only home she has ever known ... with all the family. Phoenix and Griffin are two grandchildren who say they miss the little dog and want her to come home. If any of my readers know where Sheila may be, call the Perrys at 925-3519.
Doug and Susie Tussey are now operating the old Tussey Store at Round Hill in Kirksville once again and Susie called today inform me of their hours. She tells me that they do appreciate seeing some of the crowd from Paint Lick’s Rick’s Diner, who come in for breakfast and dinner. They are all welcome and Susie said they are in full swing and they even have gasoline at the pumps. Their hours are Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sundays, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Paint Lick’s Christmas in the Village is set for Saturday, Dec. 5 and in last week’s column, I made a mistake. The raffle ticket prices were incorrectly listed. The tickets can be purchased at First Southern Bank or from any volunteer at Friends of Paint Lick. The cost is $2 each or 3 for $5. We have the raffle items set up in the Friends building and they can be seen on our opening days of Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
Christmas in the Village will be opening around 9 a.m. followed with the Christmas story being read to children in the library. Then, Christmas crafts are ready for the children across the hall at 10 a.m. with some wonderful ladies. Last, but not least, Santa Claus should be arriving somewhere between 11 to 11:30 a.m. The drawing for the raffle items will follow Santa. Everyone is welcome at Friends to enjoy hot coffee, cocoa and cookies. If any of you have ideas that would enhance the joy of Christmas that day, please come and join us as we recognize Jesus’ birthday.
