Three Marines visited Cpl. Nell Martin Campbell, 90, on Dec. 13 and presented her with an honorary membership in Winchester’s Harold G. Epperson Marine Corps League, Detachment 1113. These individuals served with pride and are a living part of our country’s history, said Dinah Martin, Mrs. Campbell’s daughter-in-law.
Cpl. Chester Lacy, of Stanton, served in Vietnam from 1961-1967. He stood in the honor guard for Gen. Douglas MacArthur’s funeral on April 11, 1964.
Sgt. Marion Brewer, of Clay City, served in Korea from 1953 to 1961 as a full-time pastor.
Cpl. Ernest Snowden, of Clay City, served in WWII from 1942 to 1946. He was 17-years-old when he waded into the Battle of Guadalcanal, where he served 30 months. Snowden also is the recipient of two Purple Hearts.
