On August 23, 1873, the Tates Creek Predestinarian Baptist Association was organized at what was then called the Old Baptist Church in Richmond. Old minutes show that in 1873, blacks drew off from the white association, although retaining the same name, as it is a biblical name and the Lord said He would give it a name.
August 13-16, the Association will return to the “old landmark,” back where it all began, The Richmond Predestinarian Baptist Church located at 209 East Irvine Street. It has been more than 30 years since the Annual Association has been conducted at the “mother church.”
During this big, four-day convention, there will be preachers from Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky and many other areas preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.
On Saturday, Aug. 15, Mayor Connie Lawson and representatives from the mayor’s office will present a proclamation in honor of the 136th Annual Association. Elder James McPherson is the moderator, Elder John Settles is the vice moderator and Elder Raymond Walker is the host pastor. Amen.

Youth musical
Today at 6 p.m., the youth and young adult department of Tates Creek Predestinarian Baptist Association will present a gifted youth musical. There will be youth choirs and young adults from throughout the area appearing on program. This event will be conducted at the Pleasant Green Predestinarian Baptist Church in Waco.
Food sale
There will be a giant food sale today at the Masonic Lodge Hall on Francis Street at 11 a.m. There will fish sandwiches, fish plates, coneys, hot dogs, homemade pies, homemade cakes, soft drinks, etc. We will take orders for homemade pies and cakes. Deliveries can be made by calling 979-4399 or 893-5273. This is sponsored by the Concord Predestinarian Baptist Church.
Back-to-School Fest
A Back-to-School Fest, hosted by Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church, is today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Dillingham Heights Park. There will be free school supplies, food, fun and a clothing drive. All families are welcome. Floyd T. Ballew is pastor.
Hymn sing
Today at 7 p.m., the Clarksville Baptist Church at 2063 Berea Road will present its monthly hymn sing. Special singers will be the Azbill Family, Redeemed, and Jr. Rogers Group.
Fundraising yard sale
The Red House United Methodist Church will host a fundraising yard sale today. The sale will be on Clay Drive in Richmond from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Homecoming
New Liberty Baptist Church, Bobtown will celebrate its annual homecoming and rally day on Sunday. Pastor Richard Gaines, choir and congregation of Consolidated Baptist Church, Lexington, will be the special guest at 3 p.m. Dinner will be served. Everyone is invited. Chairperson is Bro. Jim Cornelison. Host pastor is Alfonso Kenney.
Fellowship Day
Sunday at 6 p.m., Peytontown Baptist Church will observe Fellowship Day. The special guest will be Pastor Kevin W. Cosby, choir and congregation from St. Stephen Baptist Church, Louisville. Everyone is cordially invited to worship with us. Dinner will be served. Clifford Campbell is the host pastor.
Family Fun Day
Come join the amazing, mighty, enduring women of St. Paul AME Church for a day of fun and fellowship on Saturday, Aug. 15, from noon to 5 p.m. The Family Fun Day, sponsored by the Sisterhood of St. Paul AME, will be at the church and will include activities, food (for a minimum donation) and a silent auction. The event is open to the entire community. St. Paul AME Church will be celebrating Women’s Day on Sunday, Aug. 16. The guest speaker will be Mrs. Charlise Lewis and there will be a reception afterwards.
Homecoming
Farristown Missionary Baptist Church, Berea, will celebrate its annual homecoming and rally day on Aug. 16. Elder Chris Wright, choir, and congregation of Pilgrim Baptist Church, Midway, will be the special guests for the 3 p.m. service. Dinner will be served following morning worship. Sis. Carolyn S. Walker is chairperson. Dr. Gerald L. Smith is pastor.
Youth Revival
Naked Truth House of God is hosting its annual youth revival Aug. 20-22. Everyone is welcome, especially Eastern Kentucky University students and young adults.
On Aug. 20 at 7:30 p.m., guest preachers are Minister Carlie Taylor and Elder C. Purnell. On Aug. 21 at 8:30 p.m., there will be a Gospel Extravaganza and on Aug. 22 at 3:30 p.m., the guest preacher is Apostle Steven Best of Cleveland.
