The Madison County Cooperative Extension Service is partnering with Eastern Kentucky University for a BioEnergy Field Day on Thursday, Sept. 9 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the EKU Meadowbrook Farm.
This year’s Farm Field Day will focus on increasing awareness of on-farm energy efficiency possibilities and renewable energy production opportunities we well as showcase advancements in the field of renewable energy.
Exhibitors from across Kentucky will display information and products for on-farm and in-home best practices and emerging agricultural opportunities to participate in new, sustainable energy industries within Kentucky. Local area Agri-Businesses and Equipment Dealers will be on hand with displays. See the Madison County Cooperative Extension website for details as they become available: ces.ca.uky.edu/madison/.
For those interested in learning more about alternative agriculture, Christy Cassidy from the University of Kentucky New Crop Opportunity Center will have a booth at the Field Day. The center provides production and marketing information on a variety of crops, such as various fruits, vegetables, flowers and oil crops, just to name a few. This is a great resource for budget information on different crops as well as to learn more about alternative crops that would grow well in our area. There also will be several displays and demonstrations, including waste plastics to biodiesel technologies, food preservation and safety, green cleaning, 4-H electricity demonstrations and a vermicomposting class. (If you wish to take the class, you must pre-register by calling 623-4072.)
Be sure to stop by the Cooperative Extension Horticulture and Agriculture booth and learn about our free soil testing programs coming up this fall.
This event is free and open to the public and a sponsored meal will be served. Please call 623-4072 if you plan to attend, so enough food may be prepared. There is plenty of parking and don’t forget to bring your lawn chairs!
