Extension Farm Field Day set for August 6

Brandon Sears

The 2009 Madison County Extension Farm Field Day will be conducted at 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 6 in conjunction with the Madison County Beef Cattle Association Fall Cattle Tour at the Turpin Farm, 522 Peacock Road, Richmond.

This educational field day will focus on crops, livestock and family issues important to the local resident. Wagon tours will take participants on six different ag production stops. After the tours, at around 6 p.m., there will be a sponsored meal of ribeye sandwiches and sides. Door prizes have been donated by local businesses.

Everyone is welcome. There is plenty of parking and indoor restrooms on site. Call 623-4072 to make reservations so we will have enough food prepared. Don’t forget your lawn chairs!

Tour stops include mineral supplementation for beef cattle, weed control options in pastures, new cost-share opportunities for pasture weed control, heifer development and forage production.

There will be booths and displays by Northside Equipment, Bevins Motor Company, Madison County Farm Bureau, Madison County Beef Cattle Association, Farm Service Agency, Madison County Conservation District, KDA Hay Testing Van, Extension Horticulture, Extension Homemakers and 4-H Youth Development.
