HARLAN —
A man has been arrested in central Kentucky in the death last week of a former eastern Kentucky mayor whose body was found after a house fire.
Kentucky State Police said 29-year-old Shelby L. Shell of Berea was arrested at his residence Monday afternoon and charged with the death of 59-year-old Ronnie King of Evarts in Harlan County. Authorities said King was found dead of a gunshot wound inside his burned home on Feb. 18.
Police said Shell would be returned to Harlan County to face charges of murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, first-degree arson and tampering with physical evidence.
King served the city of Evarts in the late 1980s and early 1990s as a city councilman and mayor.
