Man pleads not guilty to great-grandmother’s murder

RICHMOND — A man accused of bludgeoning his great-grandmother to death four years ago made his first appearance Thursday in open court.

William Cody Tribble, 22, pleaded not guilty to the murder of 78-year-old JoAnn “Margie” Tribble at his arraignment in Madison Circuit Court.

Tribble originally was charged in September as a juvenile because he was 17 at the time of the alleged crime. A closed hearing was conducted soon after his arrest, and the judge ordered the case moved to circuit court so Tribble will be tried as an adult, according to Commonwealth’s Attorney David Smith.

JoAnn Tribble was found July 20, 2008, on the floor of her garage with a head wound. She later died at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

While law enforcement officers initially though her wound was caused by a fall, the state medical examiner determined her injuries were caused by being struck in the back of the head with an object, according to the RPD.

Tribble’s arrest citation states that he confessed Sept. 19 during an police interview to assaulting his great-grandmother with a weapon. The weapon was a hammer, according to the grand jury indictment.

Tribble is next scheduled to appear in circuit court for a preliminary hearing Feb. 14.
