RICHMOND — A man from New York state was charged Tuesday night with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs after the truck he was driving wrecked on Interstate 75.
Russell Kent Frey, 52, of Akron, N.Y., was charged with aggravated driving under the influence (second offense), according to Madison County Detention Center records.
No one was injured in the single-vehicle accident, Deputy Willard Reardon said.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Department received information around 6 p.m. that a truck hauling a fifth-wheel camper heading north was swerving erratically on the road, according to Reardon.
Reardon said the first calls came while the truck was traveling through Rockcastle County near mile marker 71.
Deputies were looking for the truck when they came upon the accident near Exit 90.
The truck’s camper had come off its foundation, blocking the northbound lanes, Reardon said.
Officers were able to open one lane of traffic, but it took nearly three hours to get the accident cleaned up. A crane truck was used to lift the camper back onto its foundation.
“Traffic moved fairly well while we were out there,” Reardon said.
All three northbound lanes of I-75 were reopened around 9 p.m.
“We were lucky there were no injuries,” Reardon said.
