RICHMOND —
A Richmond man has been charged with felony assault after police say he was involved in altercation two months ago that left two people with injuries.
Kenneth R. Slaughter, 22, of Race Street, was taken into custody Tuesday at the Madison County Hall of Justice and charged with second-degree assault and harassment in connection with the Aug. 11 incident.
Another person, Kim Broyles, 20, of Keri Ann Drive, was cited Sept. 9 on a charge of fourth-degree assault in the same incident.
A woman told police Aug. 11 that she went to visit her stepson at an apartment complex in the 600 block of Big Hill Avenue. When she arrived, she said there was a large group of people yelling and screaming outside her stepson’s apartment, according to a news release from the Richmond Police Department.
The woman told the people to be quiet, but Slaughter pushed her to the ground, and Broyles punched her several times in the face, the release stated.
The woman suffered minor injuries, the RPD reported.
The father of the woman’s stepson came out of the apartment and saw the assault, and he confronted Slaughter, according to the release. The man reported that Slaughter then punched him in the face, which knocked him to the ground.
The man was treated at Baptist Health in Richmond, and he sustained several broken bones in his face, according to the RPD release.
Man charged with cocaine possession
A report of a man asleep at the wheel of his running vehicle led to his arrest for cocaine possession, according to an RPD news release.
Jerry W. Rynearson, 41, of Pioneer Drive was charged Tuesday with first-degree possession of a controlled substance.
At 6:13 p.m., an officer investigated a report of a person asleep at the wheel in the 100 block of Lowell Drive, the release stated. The officer reported that he found Rynearson asleep in the driver’s seat with the engine running and the vehicle in gear.
Rynearson had a socket in his lap that contained a white substance that the officer suspected to be cocaine, the release said.
Rynearson was awakened, taken into custody and lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.
Burglar reported at Dixie Plaza MHP
A resident in the 100 block of Dixie Plaza Mobile Home Park reported Tuesday that a PlayStation 3 console, a Turtle Beach wireless headset and an Uncharted 2 video game had been stolen from this home sometime between Oct. 13 and Oct. 14. The items were worth $660.
