Robbery suspect arrested on Turpin Drive

RICHMOND —

A man who was identified as a robbery suspect from photos posted on the Richmond Police Department’s Facebook page was apprehended Friday night on Turpin Drive.

William H. Taylor, 32, of Norwood Drive, was charged with second-degree robbery on the strength of an arrest warrant.

Taylor also had three syringes in his pocket, one of which contained suspected methamphetamine, and two small bags of suspected methamphetamine, according to an RPD news release.

Taylor additionally was charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Dec. 15, officers responded to a call at Kroger about a shoplifter who was fleeing the store, according to the release.

The officers learned the man had attempted to leave the store without paying for $79 in merchandise. When the man was confronted by an employee, he shoved the worker and fled on foot, the release stated.

Officers were not able to find the suspect in the area.

The RPD posted pictures of the man on its Facebook site, which generated “numerous tips” that identified Taylor as the suspect, according to the release.

A follow-up investigation confirmed Taylor’s identity, and an arrest warrant on the charge of second-degree robbery was issued Jan. 10.

At 8:39 p.m. Friday, Taylor was spotted by a patrol officer while walking on Turpin Drive. He was taken into custody without incident and taken to the Madison County Detention Center.

The owner of Kid’s Kingdom, Highland Park Drive, reported Saturday that the business had been burglarized during the night and about $60 and a Toshiba Satellite laptop computer, worth $700, was stolen. Entry was gained by prying open a side door, according to the RPD.

Other crime:

• A resident in the 200 block of Tulip Drive reported Friday that his vehicle had been unlawfully entered during the night and a green iPod Nano and black Nike wallet were stolen. Estimated loss is $230.

• A resident in the 1000 block of Raintree Drive reported Friday that his vehicle had been unlawfully entered during the night and a set of red Beats by Dr. Dre headphones, worth $250, were stolen. There were no signs of forced entry, according to the RPD.

• A resident in the 100 block of Maple Hill Drive reported that two unknown brand GPS units, worth $350, had been stolen from her vehicle. There were no signs of forced entry, the RPD reported.

• A resident in the 100 block of Bennington Lane reported Wednesday that a black White House/Black Market duffle bag had been stolen from her vehicle during the night. Entry was gained by breaking out the driver’s side window. Estimated loss is $120.
