RICHMOND — A Richmond man with prior felony convictions was charged with numerous drug offenses after a traffic stop early Friday morning.

Steven Scott Roden, 41, of North Madison Avenue, was pulled over near the intersection of the Eastern Bypass and Killarney Lane for a traffic violation, according to a news release from Richmond Police Chief Larry Brock.

The patrol officer found 30 oxycodone pills on Roden’s person. Upon searching his vehicle, the officer found 75 hydrocodone pills, six grams of suspected heroin, 1.6 grams of suspected methamphetamine, nine grams of marijuana, several Suboxone strips, 48 pseudoephedrine pills, syringes, baggies and a loaded .32-caliber handgun, the release stated.

Roden was charged with three counts of first-, second- and third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, trafficking in marijuana (less than eight ounces), possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was placed in the Madison County Detention Center, where he remained Friday evening under a $50,000 bond, according to jail records.

Drug trafficking charge

On the afternoon of Feb. 28, Richmond police detectives investigated a report of drug trafficking activity on Water Street and encountered William Minter, 54, of South Third Street, according to the chief’s report.

Minter was in possession of a package containing more than five pounds of marijuana, according to police, Brock stated. Minter was lodged in the detention center, where he remained Friday evening under a $2,500 cash bond.

Arrest made in burglary case

In early February, the owner of an unoccupied home on Moberly Avenue reported it had been unlawfully entered sometime during the past four days.

The owner initially reported that an antique, white cast-iron, king-sized bed had been stolen but later discovered that 24 collectible Barbie dolls also were missing.

There were no signs of forced entry, and the loss was estimated at $6,500.

A Richmond police investigation identified Terry Caldwell, 50, of Turpin Drive, as a suspect, according to Brock news release. Investigators believe he had been in possession of the stolen items and then transferred them to a third party, the chief’s report stated.

A warrant was obtained for Caldwell’s arrest Feb. 22, charging him with receiving stolen property, under $10,000, and theft by deception, under $500.

Caldwell was arrested Feb. 27 and detained at the county jail, where he remained Friday evening under a $7,500 bond on the theft charges and an additional $7,633 on a child-support charge.

The stolen property was recovered and returned to the owner, according to police.

Other police reports

On Jan. 28, the owner of an apartment building under construction reported several pieces of steel rebar had been stolen from the site.

Around 8 p.m., a resident in the area saw two men in a dark-colored Jeep Grand Cherokee loading 16-foot steel rebar (5/8 inches in diameter) onto a black 12-foot trailer with a tall tailgate.

The witness confronted the two men who claimed they had been given permission to remove the items. The witness told the men the rebar did not belong to them and to unload it.

The two men unloaded a few pieces and then jumped in their vehicle and left with approximately 20 pieces of stolen rebar in the trailer, according to the police news release.

One suspect was described as a white male, 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds, in his mid-20s, wearing bib overalls and a light-colored hoodie. The second suspect (the driver) was described as a white male, 5 feet 6 inches, 180 pounds, in his mid-40s, wearing bib overalls and a light-colored hoodie.

The estimated loss is $400.

On Feb. 26, a resident in the 600 block of Martin Drive reported his residence had been unlawfully entered between Feb. 23 and 24. A Coke bottle-shaped coin bank with an Ohio State logo on it and a 750-milliliter bottle of Maker’s Mark whiskey was stolen. The coin bank contained approximately $400 in assorted change and bills. The estimated loss is $426.
