RICHMOND —
Detectives were not even looking for Shawnta Patterson, 38, during an investigation in Southern Hills on Tuesday afternoon.
But, a detective spotted Patterson, who had an active warrant for drug trafficking, according to Deputy Willard Reardon in a press release by the sheriff's department.
Patterson spotted the detective too, so he “fled on foot and the officers gave chase,” Reardon said.
Patterson entered his apartment at 916 Villa Drive where detectives found more than just the fleeing suspect.
The sheriff's office seized 215 Percocet (oxycodone) with a street value of $5,000; 29 Xanax worth about $200; and $1,900 in cash.
Charges are pending in connection to three flatscreen televisions detectives suspect are stolen, Reardon said.
Leon Benson, 28, Commerce Drive of Berea, also was in the Villa Drive apartment and was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (oxycodone), third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (Xanax) and possession of marijuana under eight ounces.
Patterson was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance on his active Madison County warrant. The new charges are first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance and third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.
Both Patterson and Benson are at the Madison County Detention Center, each with a $50,000 cash bond.
