A traffic stop Friday resulted in the arrest of two men who, combined, had more than 600 narcotic pills and $1,050 in cash.
Kenneth Martin, 21, and Donte Howard, both of Berea, were arrested and charged with first- and third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance after Martin was stopped on Northbound I-75.
“The operator of the vehicle did not have a drivers license,” said Sgt. Jake Reed, public information officer for the Berea Police Department.
After Martin was arrested, officers executed a search warrant at his residence on Ridgewood Drive in Berea.
“Inside the apartment they detained the second subject (Howard),” Reed said. “They also located different kinds of pills totaling 494 tablets.”
Martin also was charged with several traffic offenses, he said.
In other arrests:
• Glenn Partin, 38, of Berea, was arrested Jan. 29 and charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
After responding to a call of suspicious activity on Boone Street, officers located a parked vehicle with a man inside.
“Inside the vehicle they located a syringe with a blue liquid substance as well as a soda can with the same substance on the bottom side of it,” Reed said. The substance in the syringe is suspected to be Percocet.
• Daniel Parker, 33, and Tiffany Gortney, 32, both of Lexington, were arrested Jan. 31 and charged with receiving stolen property.
Officers were called to the area of I-75 Northbound in reference to a vehicle that had just left Walmart, Reed said.
“Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on I-75 Northbound near the 83 Exit,” he said. “Inside the vehicle, officers located several boxes of diabetic test strips that were still inside their security cases.”
The total value of the merchandise was $547. Parker also was charged with several traffic offenses.
In other crime:
• A resident in the 30 Block of Mary Street reported Friday, Feb. 1 that she was away for several days and items were stolen from the home. The estimated loss is $100, according to police.
• A resident in the 400 Block of Oak Street reported Jan. 30 that several items were taken from the home while he was away. The estimated loss is $2,205.
• A resident in the 300 Block of Melody Lane reported Jan. 28 that someone entered the residence while no one was home and took prescription medication.
• A victim reported Jan. 28 that an iPhone was stolen from Berea Community School during the school day. The estimated loss is $199, according to police.

Man arrested Friday after early morning break-in
Richmond police made an arrest Friday in connection with an early morning break-in at Jack’s Cleaners on West Water Street.
Scott Hobbs, 42, of McKee, was charged with first-degree burglary, according to Richmond Police Chief Larry Brock
At 3:25 a.m., a witness reported seeing a man enter and exit the cleaners through a broken window and drive away, Brock stated in a news release. -
