RICHMOND —
Eastern Kentucky University police booked a student into the Madison County Detention Center at 7 p.m. Monday in connection with a bomb scare on campus earlier in the day, according to EKU spokesperson Marc Whitt.
Jacob A. Walker, 18, a first-semester freshman from Jefferson County, was charged with first-degree terroristic threatening, according to the detention center's website. The felony charge carries a possible sentence of five to 10 years in prison if convicted.
A small refrigerator wrapped in duct tape with a note attached was found at 4 p.m. in a Palmer Hall corridor. Residence hall staff evacuated the dorm and summoned police, Whitt said.
A Kentucky State Police bomb squad and a bomb-sniffing dog were called to investigate. Authorities later found the refrigerator contained only rotten meat, Whitt said.
At 6 p.m., Whitt announced that investigators had determined a threat no longer existed, and students were allowed to return to their rooms in the residence hall. Normal activities also were allowed to resume outside.

Court hearing reveals errors in trafficking case’s investigative file
A discrepancy in police records led to an unusual hearing in a drug trafficking case Thursday in Madison Circuit Court.
The attorney for 49-year-old Carla Rae Clontz made a motion earlier this month for a bill of particulars hearing. Both the prosecution and defense attorneys had noticed problems with the file numbers in Clontz’ case, and there also were different reports of the number of pills sheriff’s deputies allege were found in her home. -
Man charged in theft of cash, skates from Sonic
Richmond police charged Isaac Hamilton, 20, of South Killarney Lane, with two counts of theft by unlawful taking under $500 Tuesday after he allegedly stole from his employer.
Hamilton, a former employee of Sonic on Big Hill Avenue, left the drive-in restaurant May 15 with $273.84, a change dispenser and a pair of roller skates and did not return, the business reported to police. -

A February car crash in which one person suffered a broken arm led to the indictment this week of an Irvine man on four wanton endangerment charges.
Zachary C. Goosey, 20, was was traveling eastbound Feb. 18 on the Eastern Bypass when his vehicle crossed the median and struck a westbound vehicle stopped at a traffic light, according to a Richmond police news release. -

Richmond police made an arrest Friday in connection with an early morning break-in at Jack’s Cleaners on West Water Street.
Scott Hobbs, 42, of McKee, was charged with first-degree burglary, according to Richmond Police Chief Larry Brock
