RPD charges man with possessing stolen MacBook

RICHMOND —

A Richmond man was charged Wednesday with receiving property that was reported stolen following a home burglary on South Madison Street.

Devon T. Gerald, 22, of South Second Street, was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property (under $10,000) after being interviewed at the Richmond Police Department, according to a news release from Chief Larry Brock.

Residents of an apartment in the 200 block of South Madison Avenue reported Oct. 27 that their unlocked home had been burglarized during the early evening hours.

Missing items included four silver Apple MacBook Pro all-in-one computers, a Vizio 40-inch to 45-inch LCD television, two PlayStation 3 gaming consoles and a Lenovo laptop computer.

The total estimated loss was $7,060.

“During the follow-up investigation, detectives discovered that Gerald had been in possession of one of the stolen MacBook computers shortly after the burglary and had transferred it to a third party,” Brock said.

The MacBook computer, valued at $1,200, was recovered, according to the release.

Purse reportedstolen at store

A customer at the Salvation Army Thrift Store reported Tuesday that her purse was stolen while she was shopping at the store during the early afternoon.

The woman said she had set her purse on the floor to look at some merchandise and when she went to pick the purse up, it was gone, according to an RPD news release.

The Jimmy Choo knockoff purse contained a wallet, $888 and several personal items. The purse was later found with all the cash missing.
