RICHMOND —
A South Kilarney man allegedly made 31 calls to 911 over a two-day period in early March.
On Sunday, a summons in connection with harassing communications was served on Benjamin Crider, 26, at the Madison County Detention Center where was already incarcerated on fourth-degree assault charges stemming from a domestic incident, according to Richmond Police Chief Larry Brock in a press release.
On March 6, around 4 a.m., officers were dispatched to Crider’s residence to investigate a noise complaint. Officers spoke with Crider concerning the matter and then departed.
Within 20 minutes, officers were sent back to the residence to address the same complaint, the release stated. Crider refused to answer the door and the officers left.
After the officers departed, Crider called the 911 center 24 times, each time he allegedly berated the dispatchers and used crude and abusive language, Brock said.
The next day, around 4:30 a.m., the 911 center reported Crider was again making excessive calls to the center and harassing dispatchers. Police said he had made at least seven harassing, vulgar and abusive calls to the 911 center that day.
An RPD supervisor spoke with Crider and advised him of the reason for the original police visits and of the need to cease the harassment of the 911 center, the release stated.
Crider was then allegedly abusive toward the officer and a second officer that attempted to speak with him.
On March 12, a complaint was signed against Crider for harassing communications and a summon was issued for his appearance in court to answer the charge.
Crider remains at the detention center in lieu of a $2,500 cash bond for the fourth-degree assault charge, according to jail records.
