RICHMOND —
The Louisville man accused of burglarizing and then burning the New Opportunity School for Women in Berea late last year also has now been charged in connection with a stolen and wrecked Madison County school bus.
Gary Davidson, 30, has been charged with receiving stolen property (under $10,000) in addition to third-degree burglary and second-degree arson in the Berea case.
Richmond police were called Jan. 13, 2011, to Autumn Leaf Drive to investigate an abandoned Madison County school bus parked in a vacant lot, according to an RPD news release.
The bus had been stolen and wrecked, sustaining about $2,500 in damage, the report stated.
Davidson was a suspect in the theft, and he was charged Tuesday in the Madison County Detention Center.
The New Opportunity School for Women in Berea was burglarized and gutted by fire Dec. 12, 2011. A security camera at a nearby building captured video of the suspect who police identified as Davidson, according to a Berea Police Department news release.
Davidson was located and interviewed by detectives Friday, and he admitted to forcing his way in the building and taking several items, according to the release.
The New Opportunity School for Women was created in 1987 to help Appalachian women become better educated and employed. The school now operates out of the lower level of the First Christian Church, 204 Chestnut Street.
