RICHMOND —
A small amount of suspected heroin and 12 plastic bags of suspected cocaine were recovered Wednesday after police arrested two Keri Ann Drive residents on drug charges.
William Damien Gross, 21, and Justin T. Curtis, 23, were arrested after a patrolling officer stopped them because of suspected criminal activity, according to Richmond Police Chief Larry Brock.
At approximately 2:20 a.m., the officer saw three men standing outside of a vehicle parked on Ballard Drive.
The officer first discovered that an arrest warrant had been filed on Curtis for a contempt of court charge.
After being taken into custody, the officer found one-fourth of a Suboxone strip.
“A gum wrapper recovered from where he was sitting in the vehicle was found to contain suspected heroin,” Brock said.
A search of the vehicle, which had been driven by Gross, produced three small bags of suspected
cocaine and four oxycodone (Percocet) pills.
Nine more plastic bags of suspected cocaine and a small amount of marijuana were found on Gross after arriving at the Madison County Detention Center, Brock said.
Curtis is charged with first- and second-degree possession of a controlled substance
Gross is charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, first-degree possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
Man arrested in connection with firearm theft
Police arrested Cory Brewer, 23, in connection with a firearm theft that was reported Jan. 25.
“A resident in the 200 block of Ty Court reported Jan. 25 that Brewer, a relative, had stolen a .22 caliber rifle from his residence during the morning hours,” Brock said.
It later was determined that Brewer had transferred the rifle to a third party shortly after the theft, he said. The firearm was recovered and returned to the owner.
Brewer was interviewed Wednesday at the police station, where he was charged with receiving stolen property and taken to the Madison County Detention Center.
In other crimes:
• A complainant reported that his silver iPod in a black Otter Box was stolen Tuesday while he was visiting a residence in the 300 block of Hill Street. There were a number of visitors to the residence during the time of the theft, according to police.
• A resident in the 100 block of Maple Hill Drive reported Tuesday that a black and chrome iPod, 8GB, and a black Garmin Nuvi 4.0 GPS unit was stolen overnight from his unlocked vehicle, according to police. The estimated loss is $385.
• The owner of a rental property in the 2000 block of Fayette Drive reported Monday that the residence had been unlawfully entered between Jan. 14 and Jan. 24 and several portions of copper tubing had been removed. It was suspected that entry was made through a basement door, Brock said. The tubing was removed from near the water heater and furnace. The estimated loss and damage is $1,500.
