RICHMOND —
Although a Richmond woman has been charged with trying to flee from a sheriff’s deputy early Sunday morning, it wasn’t your typical high-speed police chase.
The 20-minute pursuit reached speeds of just 35 mph.
Donna Lainhart, 56, was charged after the sheriff’s department received a complaint about a speeding vehicle on Lexington Road, according to Deputy Eddie Goode.
A deputy saw the vehicle and determined it was going 70 mph in a 55 mph zone, Goode said.
As soon as the deputy activated his emergency lights to pull Lainhart’s vehicle over, she immediately slowed to 35 mph, according to Goode.
However, she didn’t stop.
The deputy reported he followed her car at 35 mph for several miles, and the pursuit lasted about 20 minutes.
“He just followed her until she pulled into a parking lot and stopped,” Goode said.
Lainhart stopped in the parking lot of Madison Baptist Church near Clay Lane, the deputy reported.
Lainhart was charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, first-degree fleeing or evading police, possession of marijuana and speeding 15 mph over the limit.
Lainhart was released Sunday afternoon on a $2,500 third-party bond.
