An Irvine man, Donnie Isaacs, 61, who was walking in the roadway on KY 52, died shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday when he was struck by a car.
The incident took place between Moberly Loop Road and the Moberly Shell Mart on the highway also known as Irvine Road.
Madison County Coroner Jimmy Cornelison said E-911 dispatch received a call about a man walking in the roadway. Moments later, another caller reported a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle.
Cornelison pronounced Isaacs dead at the scene at 3:30 a.m. and estimated the time of death at 2:56 a.m., based on the 911 call. The victim died instantly from the impact. Results of toxicology tests will not be available for some time, the coroner said.
Isaacs was in the road's eastbound lane when the car of an Irvine couple traveling eastbound hit him, Cornelison said. The victim's body crashed into the car's windshield, shattering it, and then passed over the vehicle before landing on the pavement.
“There was nothing the driver could have done” to avoid the collision, the coroner said.
In his 35 years of working with Madison County emergency services and as coroner, Cornelison estimated he had responded to at least 13 fatalities on Irvine Road.
Isaacs lived on Wagersville Road in Irvine. Toler Funeral home of Irvine is in charge of his funeral arrangements.
The Madison County Sheriff's Office, Madison County EMS and Madison County Rescue Squad also responded to the accident.
