Residents of Porter Drive finally are seeing a resolution to a long-time problem concerning three speed humps placed along their street.
A three-way stop sign, along with a warning sign with flashing lights were installed Monday at the intersection of Porter Drive and Barnes Mill Road. The traffic control devices will be in place for one week before the speed humps are removed, according to Interim City Manager Jimmy Howard.

Save green by going green. That is the idea behind this year’s Madison County Home Energy Expo scheduled for Saturday, March 13 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Perkins Building on Eastern Kentucky University’s campus.

The free event will show homeowners how they can save money by making their homes and landscaping more energy efficient.

Information booths, educational workshops and children’s events are just a few of the events included in the Energy Expo.

EKU student president making plans to go back where she came from

Immediately following the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center, a few of her fellow middle school students told Afsi Siahloohi she should “go back where you came from.”

That would not have been hard to do.

Like most of her classmates, she was born and raised in eastern Kentucky. On a farm at Spout Springs, to be exact.

Her father, Karim, is a native of Iran, and her mother, Kimberly, was born and reared in the Kentucky hill country.

Family court building nearing completion

Richmond’s historic First Street will soon have a new building to replace four that were demolished last year, giving Madison Family Court a new home with more than twice as much space.

Construction of the 16,600 square-foot building, at a cost of about $700,000, should be complete by April 5, according to developer Michael Eaves. Family court currently is housed in the 6,162 square-foot Farris Parks Courthouse Annex next door at the corner of Main and North First streets.
