In the Kit Carson Elementary outdoor classroom, fourth-grader Devin Weber uses a ruler to take measurements of a tree to record in his nature journal during teacher Vivian Bowles’ science class Wednesday. As part of the class, each student adopted a spot to observe throughout the four seasons as a way to study ecosystems and the interaction of living things. The students have been using the outdoor classroom as part of the proposed “No Child Left Inside” act which aims to introduce environmental education as a school subject so students can learn in nature, not just learn about nature.
